Asalaam Alaykum year 2 parents, I pray you are all well and enjoyed the half term. We are entering another faze of lockdown I pray Allah keeps you all safe and allow us to benefit from what Allah has decreed for us.
This week we have dived straight into learning and have begun our new topics.
In English we have started reading a new book called Yeh Shen and the Magic Fish. This is one of my favorite books to teach as there are lots of small lessons children can learn from it. Children have been introduced to speech marks and how to use them. MashAllah children have picked it up quick however need continuous practice, we will be practicing regularly at school, please do at home too. We have written messages as the character, which we will put in a bottle to resemble it going off in the ocean therefore please bring in a 500ml plastic water bottle on Monday (these of course won’t be put in the sea!). The classroom has also been decorated with Chinese lanterns to go with our book theme!
Next week we will carry on reading the book and learning about playscripts, letters and planning and writing our own story.
In maths we have been learning how to add and subtract 10 to a number. We have been using bead strings, cubes, 100 squares and working it out mentally. Children have also been looking at adding 10p more and less to a price. Next week we will be learning to add 11, 12 and 20 to a number.
We have also been learning about ordinal numbers such as, first, second, third etc and how to write them in numbers.
I cannot stress again the importance of children learning their 2, 5 and 10 times table. Please practise at home, this is where the real practise takes place.
We have began our history topic The Great Fire of London! Children have been excited to learn about this and mashAllah I was pleasently surprised to hear how much they have learnt! Next week we also have drama hut coming in which will all be based around the GFOL.
Nature journals must be in by the 11th November please!
Homework due on Tuesdays
Reading books and journals to be brought in everyday. If a child loses a book a payment of £5 must be made to the office, we accept cash.
If your child has a plimsole bag please bring it in to school, this is so on
Friday children can put their plimsoles away safely.
Jazakum Allahu Khayran
