This term the theme is Around the World.
This week in Reception we have been learning about England and the story of St. George and the Dragon.
Then, we came up with our own ideas for legends and wrote the stories in Literacy! Here is an example from this week’s star writer, mashaAllah!
In Maths, we have been learning to count backwards and subtract using our fingers. There’s a fun, fast game we have been playing as a class and with practice, in’sha’Allah we will come first! You can play at home too! https://www.mathplayground.com/ASB_Ducky_Race_Subtraction.html
In Art, the children have had fun making their own shields to take home!
In’sha’Allah next week we will be reading the story of Anansi by G. McDermott. It is a myth from the tribe of the Ashanti people from Ghana (in West Africa). We will also be learning about how most of our chocolate comes from Ghana and how it arrives to the shops! In Maths, we will be learning about doubles. Now that the children understand the value of numbers, they will be able to show why 1+1= 2 and why 2+2 = 4 etc. They will be learning about doubles up to 5+5 (expected) and up to 10+10 (exceeding). They will also be taught how to work out halves (either knowing which number you have to double to get that number or by sharing between 2 people). In Literacy, the children will continue to practice writing sentences and stories based on the book of the week.
Weekly Spelling Tests:
The children have all received spellings for every Friday this term in their yellow reading records. Please practice the words for each week with your child as this will reinforce the sounds they should know and be able to write. Spelling books should be brought into school every Friday
Reception Class Trip to Hounslow Urban Farm:
On Monday 1st April 2019, Reception will be visiting Hounslow Urban Farm for the day in’sha’Allah! You will receive a letter/email next week with more information and payment details. After consulting with parents to help keep costs low, children will be dropped off to the farm by their parents (which is 10-15 mins away from school) between 9.30am-9.45am on the day and picked up at 2.30pm too. If it helps, parents can arrange to help each other by dropping off/picking up children in small groups. Jazakallah Khair for your cooperation and remember to book the date in your diaries!
Mondays – Homework due/new homework
Fridays – P.E., Book Change and Spelling Tests
We will also be checking regularly if children are reading their books at home. Please remember to sign your child’s reading record to say how they read, if they enjoyed it and what they understood/learned from the book.
We pray you have a good weekend in’sha’Allah!
