Assalamo Alaikum dear parents,
Reception have had a really exciting week and settled nicely into their second week Alhumdulillah!
This week Reception have experienced eating their lunch with the main school and have enjoyed sitting and eating independently together. The children also experienced their first assembly with the rest of the school which they all enjoyed.
This week we have been focusing on our five senses, the children have learnt about where the senses come from and how we use them in our daily lives.
On Monday the children focused on the sense of seeing, the children used different colors to create their own rainbow paintings and identified the colors of colorful pasta whist counting them.
On Tuesday we focused on the sense of taste, the children tasted some oranges, lemon, mango, honey and vinegar. From this the children were able to tell Ustadah if they could taste something sweet or sour and whether the taste was good or bad.
On Wednesday we focused on the sense of hearing, we used loud and quite noises using classroom objects, outdoor and indoor noises and musical instruments for example shakers. The children also enjoyed playing a few carpet games were we guessed the sound of the noises using their ears.
On Thursday we focused on the sense of smell, the children were able to smell different smells such as vinegar, ketch up, lemon juice and spices. We used these to play a game with the children were we guessed the smells. The children also made their own cent necklaces and bracelets using orange and lemon peels.
On Friday we focused on the sense of touch, the children were able to feel different objects and identify what they felt for example, soft, smooth and rough objects. We had our weekly P.E session where the children did many exercises and played some ball games.
For our Islamic studies we learnt about the five daily Salahs and the Arabic lip letters we also, told the story of Adam (AS). We also learnt about the shahada and that Allah is one and we will continue learning about this next week in sha Allah. Can we ask parents to focus on reading Surah Fatiha and Surah Asar at home with the children In sha Allah.
During our phonics carpet time Reception have started to learn the letters and sounds in phonics phase 2 set 1,2 and 3. We will be covering set 4 next week along with set 1,2 and 3 in sha Allah. The sounds are ( s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g) and following are next week’s sounds ( o, c, k, ck, e, u, r).
Next week our focus book and learning will be the hungry caterpillar, the children will be learning about healthy eating and the days of the week through the use of many different activities in sha Allah.
