Asalaam Alaykum year 2 parents, I pray you are well and in the best of health.

This week has been a busy one, children have been doing their baseline assessments, started their proper learning and celebrated Roald Dahl week.

We have begun a new book called Beegu, children have been describing the character and her feelings and doing fun role play! Next week we will be carrying on with Beegu but going deeper into our writing such as writing letters, diary entries and planning our own stories. For Roald Dahl week children thought about their favorite film or book and drew their favorite characters giving reasons why, here are some below!

In math’s this week we have been revising place value in numbers 0–100 and different ways of representing, comparing and ordering these. We have also started learning about 10 more and 10 less of a number. If you haven’t already, please download and print a 100 square for your child. This will help them when working out 10 more and 10 less of a number. Everyday children do a math’s quiz where they are tested on their addition and subtraction. We use the website I highly recommend for your child to practice a few days a week!

Next week we will be learning and using addition and subtraction number facts, including bonds to 10, in simple and harder calculations.

In science we have been focusing on animals and humans and what they need to survive, the importance of exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food, and hygiene. We will be doing lots of exciting things such as making our own salads!

Homework was given out today inside homework books. The homework this week is based around what we have been learning in class. Spelling are always stuck at the back of the book to revise. Each Monday we will have a spelling test, words children have spelt incorrectly will be highlighted and their result labeled. Homework is due Monday or Tuesday, children know if they do not finish homework it will carry on to the following week.

Topic overview

Below I have posted the topics we will be covering in year 2 throughout the year.
