The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac…This Week in Reception

This week we are learning about China.

We have been comparing our school to a primary school in China:

We have also been making colourful Chinese fans!

In Literacy we have been reading The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac. It is a story from China about how their new year was named after animals and how it was decided which animal the new year would be named after. There were 12 animals and the years are named after them in the order which they won the race.

The children’s writing skills are improving MashaAllah as they are becoming more independent in writing sentences themselves – we just need to keep remembering to use finger spaces between the words!

In Maths we have been learning to read and write numbers as words. MashaAllah most of the children can now recognise most numbers up to ten and are learning to write/spell them too.

Next week:
Theme: ‘Around the World in 5 days’
Maths: Reading the Days of the Week
Literacy: Reading/Writing the Days of the Week
Party on Friday!!!
