Three Billy Goats Gruff

This week Reception have had a very busy week as we have been working on the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have been focusing on many areas that will support the children’s learning involving Maths and Literacy.

On Monday we created the trolls bridge in our classroom and the children did some outdoor role-play. We created the trolls bridge and role played the story outside using face masks of the characters in the book.

On Tuesday the children practiced their maths skills by adding the pictures on their sheets, we have introduced the topic of adding numbers such as 1+2=3 and 2+2=4 to understand the meaning of the signs + and = which has allowed them to work on their adding skills and to introduce them to mathematical language.

The children have been working hard to enhance their numeracy skills and we have looked at different lengths and sizes this week such as small, medium and big.

We practiced our adding skills during carpet time

We did some junk modelling in the afternoon and the children attempted to make their own troll bridge

The children have explored the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff in our Tuff Tray.

our key words for this week

On Wednesday we did another sequencing the story activity. The children cut the images and stuck them in the right order of what happened in the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff, this allowed the children to develop their cutting skills and understanding of the story.

We also got messy with some paint!

On Thursday we had a wonderful day as it was international day! As Reception represented Japan we did many activities surrounding our country.

Our day started with a traditional breakfast meal from dishes all over the world including yummy pancakes and cupcakes! JazakAllah to all children and parents for bringing in your dishes, we all thoroughly enjoyed them!

Throughout the day we enjoyed many activities together which included designing the Japan flag, and we created Japanese blossom trees and lanterns.

We watched a movie called Mulan and some Japanese cartoons!

Here are some of our best dressed from International day! Well done to everyone, we loved all your costumes.

As it is the final Seerah week of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), on Friday the children wrote down facts that they learnt about our Prophet (SAW). The children learnt about the month of Rabi ul Awal, family members of the Prophet (SAW) and when he was born. The children also wrote any other facts that they already knew.

We also engaged in another role play activity during our carpet time and each child had a go at playing the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Alhumdulillah we have had another hard working week from Reception, next week we will be looking at the story of The Three Little Pigs. In Sha Allah we hope to see all of you next week and we hope you have extremely relaxing weekend!

Reception are continuing the learn the Arabic letters Alif, Baa, Taa, Thaa JeemHaa, Khaa, Daal, Thaal, Raa, Zayy, Seen, Sheen, Saad and Daad. The children have also practiced writing these letters and learning words that begin with the letters. Ustadah Aicha has set Reception some Homework for this week, which is to complete the coloring in sheet – please can all parents ensure the children do this and bring it back to school on Wednesday.
