This week’s learning:
English: We have moved onto exploring imaginative recounts. The class have been taking inspiration from our one of our guided reading books (Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling) as well as our main core text for this term (Boy by Roald Dahl). The children have been learning about how to structure their imaginative recounts and are in the process of planning their recounts.
Maths: In Maths we have been using multiple strategies to work out additions and subtractions (F.R.O.G. mental, column method etc.). The focus for this week was to get the children to use their skills of discernment and see which method would be best used for which problem solving question.
Science: In Science, we have been classifying different types of animals and identifying different features that makes us unique from other animals and what similarities we have.
PSHE: In relation to our theme of the week ‘Remembering Allah (swt)’ the children have been exploring ways they can put principles into action, how we can show compassion towards each other. How can we remind ourselves to be compassionate towards others? By remembering that Allah (swt) loves kindness and there are huge rewards in this.
Art: Year 5 have been using the skills learnt in sketching to differentiate between 2D objects and 3D on paper.
PE: The children have been taking part in competitive sports. This week, the children played ‘ Zombie Dodgeball’
RE: In RE, we have been learning about Hinduism and how we can learn about the similarities and differences in which it has with Islam. For this specific week, we have learnt about the main values in Hinduism such as ‘Karma’, truth and ‘Reincarnation’. The children have also learnt that Hinduism is a polytheistic religion, which means unlike Islam, Hindus believe in many gods.
Geography: The children have been learning about Europe (facts, people, characteristics etc.) The focus this week was on mapping skills and being able to identify where European countries and continents. This week served more as a consolidation of what they learnt overall.
I look forward to seeing you all again next week!
