Spring 2

By April 4, 2019 Year 3 Blog

Asalaamu alaikum parents,

It is lovely to be back at Suffah. I really enjoyed getting to know and teaching your children this half-term.

There have been lots of exciting things happening in Year 3 in the past few weeks:

Maths

We have been learning to tell the time using an analogue clock to the nearest minute. We also learned how to convert this into digital clock.

For example:

27 minutes past 2 = 2:27

21 minutes to 4 = 3.39

Telling the time is an abstract concept so your child may find it tricky to begin with but with more exposure it will get easier inshaAllah. You can make it fun and engaging by asking your child when it is time to do something (e.g. we will go shopping at 10.38, let me know when it’s time to go).

Art

We have been sketching portraits of the Iron Man using white chalk and black oil pastel. The children were experimenting with shading using their finger or a tissue. MashaAllah, we have many talented artists in Year 3!

Thank you for sending in the recycling materials for our robots. The children demonstrated excellent team work and cooperation when planning and assembling their robots. I hope this has inspired the children to see waste differently!

Science Week

For Science Week we talked about air pollution – what causes it and what we can do to reduce it. We carried out an investigation testing for acidic reactions which would indicate pollution. The children discovered that a busy road had more air pollution than a playground.

P.E

Year 3 had fun fencing in their P.E lessons this half-term. They learned many skills and new terminology such as bout, touché, parry, en-guard and foil. Next term our P.E lessons will be outdoors so children will need suitable footwear.

Computing

The children have started learning all about coding using a block coding language designed by Discovery Espresso. They are working towards designing and creating their own game inshaAllah. Coding has many benefits such as: improving presentation skills, creativity, problem solving and resilience – all vital skills for confident, happy children.

Have a restful Spring break.
