Asalamu Alaykum Parents,
Reception have yet again had a exciting week we have continued to focus on the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and have had so much fun learning new things and playing with our friends!
Reception have been working really hard this week to develop their learning and understanding and our little artists have produced some amazing work!
Lets go through the week…
On Monday the children became very imaginative and created a paper chain caterpillar using the colors green and red to imitate the colors of a real caterpillar.

For our weekly Monday afternoon cooking activity, the children made their own caterpillar snack. The children independently cut cucumbers, peppers, olives and tomatoes for their caterpillar and placed these onto their plates while creating the body shape of a caterpillar, they then added eyes and ears to their caterpillar.

If you would like the make your own caterpillar snack, then please follow the recipe below;
1/2 cucumber – for the caterpillars body
1/2 small tomato– for the caterpillar face
1 slice of pepper– for the caterpillars ears
Olives– for the caterpillars eyes
On Tuesday the children had some fun learning with the outdoor messy play and we all got messy with the sand and water play! The children also engaged in a gluing and sticking activity, the children all independently cut pieces the food the very hungry caterpillar ate during the week and stuck it down on the day they though it was eaten.

The children did some number ordering using our Very Hungry Caterpillar number plate, we had a go at ordering the numbers 1 to 10.

In the afternoon we went for a walk out of the school, we walked around the school car park and outside of the gates and the children counted how many cars they saw, each child had their very own clip board and calculated how many blue and red cars they saw during the walk.

On Wednesday the children had another messy day with our outdoor messy play activities, the children enjoyed playing with the sand and water play the children did some measuring using buckets and cups. The children continued to get creative and make their own art pieces as we finger painted our own caterpillars the children used their fingers to make the caterpillars body and counted up to number 10. During the afternoon some children’ took out books from our classroom library – can we ask parents and children to read these books and bring them back next week when the children will take another book out.

On Thursday the children were very busy and produce amazing pieces of work as we did some junk modelling in the afternoon, the children made a caterpillar using toilet roll by paining it green and adding some googly eyes. We continued to glue, stick and cut and we looked at the days the hungry caterpillar ate his food.

We used play dough to make symmetrical patterns with our play dough butterfly mat.

On Friday, the children learnt about saying Bismillah before starting anything e.g. eating, drinking or playing! The children coloured in their own poster that will remind them to always say Bismillah.

For P.E this week we did some ball activities, the children used the ball to move in different ways we did some throwing and catching with the ball. The children learnt other movements such as hoping on one leg and jumping, we also went through a tunnel and took turns while nicely waiting.

This week Ustadha Aisha has started to teach Arabic and Quran studies to the children. We have started to throw five of our Arabic letters Alif, Baa, Taa, Thaa and Jeem – can we ask parents to practice memorising these letters at home as we will be going through these in our next Arabic lesson on Tuesday.
This week the children have worked extremely hard on phonics this week, we have gone through the sound of J,V,X,W and some children have started to learn to blend and form words with these sounds such as Vet, Van, Jug, Win.
We have had a tremendous week with Reception sadly our fun with The Very Hungry Caterpillar is over now although we doing focusing on a new topic next week, we hope you have a really good weekend and see you all next week in sha Allah.
JazakAllah Khair from Ustadah Naveeda, Ustadah Kausar and Ustadah Fawziya.
