The Hungry Caterpillar comes to Reception!

Assalamo Alaikum dear parents,

This week Reception have been learning about the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and have been doing many fun activities using Maths and Literacy.

On Monday we introduced the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar during our morning circle and story time, we spoke about the importance of healthy eating and taking care of ourselves.

The children did many fun activities where we created our own caterpillar with pom poms and caterpillars using circle shaped paper and the children then wrote their names.

In the afternoon we all did some cooking, the children made their own lemonade. The children all took turns mixing the ingredients and helped each other.

140g of caster sugar

1 litre of cold water

On Tuesday, we continued to focus on the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the children did an activity were we tried to remember all the food The Very Hungry Caterpillar ate on each day of the week the children then got to write what they remembered. The children started to go through their phase 2 phonic we used our white boards during carpet time to write down the letters and sounds we also did a activity were we used magnetic letters to make words.

On Wednesday, we looked at symmetrical shapes. The children created their own butterfly paintings where we painted one side of the butterfly, we then folded the page and showed the children the other side of the page.

On Thursday we spoke about the difference between healthy eating and eating bad food such as junk food, the children did some lovely paintings and continued to make their own caterpillars and wrote their names on their caterpillars. In the afternoon the children made their own colorful pasta necklaces, the children then counted how many pasta’s they had put on their necklace.

On Friday the children practiced writing their names and practiced to write the days of the week. We also had our weekly assembly were we spoke about respecting our parents.

The children had their weekly P.E session we learnt some new movements such as jumping like frogs, we did some hoping, crawling and running.

This week for our Islamic and Arabic studies Reception learnt to say SubahanAllah and Allahu Akbar when walking up and down the stairs for lunch. The children learnt about the five pillars of Islam and the importance of being kind to our parents.

The last 3 weeks Reception have been working very hard on phonics phase 2 set 1,2,3 and 4 we have looked at the sounds s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g , o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, and encouraged the children to sound out the letters in their names and we also did some writing. Next week we will be covering the sounds j,v,w,x in sha Allah.

Next week we will continue to focus on the story of the hungry Caterpillar and have a range of activities lined up for the children to do!
