This week our reception class has been discussing about the 5 senses ‘Taste, Smell, Touch, Hear, Sight’.

πŸ”  Literacy/PhonicsπŸ“•

This week we have learnt new sounds ‘p, t’. Children learnt to write new sounds and blend letters together to form a word ‘sat, tap, pat’. We played eye spy game to encourage children to look around the classroom and find things that start with sound with ‘p,t’ as well as ‘s,a’.

βž•Maths πŸ”’

In Maths we have been learning numbers from 1 to 10 and doing matching activities.

This week we were learning matching activities through number bonds and buttons. Children were able to match the right shapes and colours. Well done!πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘ Also we continue to concentrate count and colouring patterns, this activity allows children to recognise numbers from 1 to 10.

🌍Understanding the World🌏

This week we were learning ‘All about my senses’. We talked about our five senses and why it is important to have them. Children were able to explain the importance of our 5 senses. Besides we have done different activities based on the topic.

This activity is about the sense of ‘Touch’. Children used different textures of materials and glued them on their hands. This activity allows children to distinguish the textures.
Children made maracas for the sense of hearing and they made an eye for the sense of sight.
We did an experiment based on the sense of smell and taste. The children were excited, and they made funny faces when they tried and smell.πŸ˜‚ Children were able to tell ‘good smell, it tastes sour, it is sweet…’.
We made fruit kebabs based on our sense of taste. Children enjoyed the process of making fruit kebabs. 😍This activity improves children’s fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination as they need to cut it and put it through the skewer carefully.

πŸͺOutdoor Play🌼🌺

During outdoor playtime, we focused on physical development and sensory activities.

Bowling and hoop activities were set up to improve children’s eye-hand coordination as well as turn-taking.

We have had a lovely week, we hope you have a lovely weekend.

If you would like to send in a short statement for us to add to the school’s testimonials page, regarding your child’s Reception experience it would definitely be appreciated.

You can email them directly to Ustadha Soobia at assistanthead@suffahprimaryschool.co.uk. JazakAllah πŸ™‚
